Summary North Battlefield VA Outpatient Clinic (NBVAOPC) is scheduled to open in November of 2024. Those hired for these positions will be required to work at the VA Medical Center or one of the other CBOCs (management determination based on need) until the NBVAOPC opens. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse provides substance use disorder treatment at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Program (OP) levels depending upon the individual needs of the Veteran. The nurse is an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team delivering comprehensive mental health care necessary for promotion of optimal maintenance, and management of mental and physical health with substance use disorders. The RN conducts screenings, assessments, and diagnostic interviews, for the treatment of substance use disorders, as well as other mental health symptoms; with an emphasis on the application of evidence-based treatment approaches to include Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). The Registered Nurses are guided by the philosophy and science of caring, which highlights the importance of respecting, nurturing, understanding, and assisting individuals from a moral foundation and with a holistic approach. Duties include but not limited to the following: Applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care. Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care. Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process based on the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided. The nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems. Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality of all electronic and printed patient information according to HIPAA guidelines, the Privacy Act, and as stated in the Medical Center Memo on ADP Security. Identifies potential and actual problems involving resources and/or safety. Takes action to avert or manage the situation in a manner which meets the needs of patients in a safe/therapeutic manner. Effectively plans patient care and nursing resources for maximum staff productivity, staff and time efficiency, and positive patient outcomes. Effective on follow-up actions. The nurse participates in establishing, maintaining and improving healthcare environments and conditions of employment conducive to the provision of quality health care and consistent with the values of the professional through individual and collective action. Demonstrates positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i. e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
