**Responsibilities:**

Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients and families, ensuring comprehensive care.

Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret patient information, taking age-specific needs into account for tailored care.

Conducts patient interviews to address healthcare questions, providing counseling and utilizing available resources effectively.

Administers medications and vaccines as per physician orders, staying updated on immunization requirements and changes.

Responsible for sterilizing office equipment, ordering stock supplies, and maintaining accurate records of inventory and sterilization.

Performs laboratory duties while ensuring compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards for safety and accuracy.

Identifies and communicates patient educational needs to physicians, providing targeted teaching as requested.

Assists physicians in patient examinations and specialized procedures, supporting effective diagnostic and treatment processes.

Maintains professional competence through ongoing education and training, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Demonstrates commitment to Service Excellence by understanding and meeting the needs of patients, families, physicians, and colleagues with responsibility and thoroughness.

Required:

Graduate of an approved Practical Nursing program

Preferred:

One-year clinical experience

Pulmonology experience

**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**

Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireMust complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.? Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
