Summary This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities This Licensed Practical Nurse-Mental Health position is in Mental Health services at the VA Boston located at the Brockton location. This position is a full time position at 40 hours per week. The Mental Health Service is looking for highly skilled LPN's who are interested in joining mental health teams that serve veterans across a variety of residential and outpatient settings. All positions are full-time. The Homeless Domiciliary (REACH) program, located on the Brockton campus, is a residential treatment program for male and female veterans that addresses homelessness, unemployment, substance use, and other mental health problems. The program goals include assisting veterans with obtaining stable housing and employment, achieving greater emotional stability, establishing a support system, solidifying skills for recovery, and developing a solid aftercare plan. Functioning as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home or community living care or other patients/residents who are in acute, sub acute or chronic states of illness. Assignments may involve complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. Demonstrates knowledge of basic health care provider skills. Follows standard precautions and other infection control protocols as needed. Provides 1:1 or Safety Sitter nursing care to Veterans/residents who may require restraints or special observation. Understanding Veteran's/resident's rights and responsibilities. Provides comprehensive physical care to Veterans/residents. Motivating Veterans/residents towards optimal level of functioning. Accurately records care delivery and observations using established oral, written and computer communications according to documentation guidelines. Licensed Practical Nurses will be expected to provide a range of patient/resident care and contribute to the completion of the nurse care plan and recovery of patients/residents. Incumbent will observe patients/residents' or resident's physical or emotional status and refer deviations and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner. Use of equipment, materials and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures such as bladder scan, continuous passive motion device, blood glucose monitoring machine, specimen collection, etc. The Licensed Practical Nurse will communicate effectively with patients/residents, their families and other health professionals. May serve as a preceptor to new Licensed Practical Nurses by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. Will recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance, for example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. Preferred Experience:: Experience in residential treatment program. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing(ACEN) at the time the program was completed by applicant. Verification can be obtained from the State approving agency or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Licensure: Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i. e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in [both] spoken and written English as required by 38 U. S.
