Description

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

Plans, directs and implements the financial, personnel, patient care, research and operational activities of the academic departments in the Division of Internal Medicine. Initiates and leads initiatives to improve established processes, facilitates operational efficiencies, and enhances productivity and satisfaction. Serves as the primary administrative interface between the division, its departments, and the larger institutional community. This position reports to the Division Head and AVP of the CME Office. The Division Administrator is responsible for managing a budget that in FY2023 was $218 million in gross clinical revenue and $48 million in grant and contract funding.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Strategic Planning

- Participates in strategic and annual operating planning for the Division with regard to academic operations, patient care services, the expansion of facilities and the like.

- Completes feasibility studies and analyses of new programs in order to determine clinical benefit and financial contribution to the divisional or institutional margin.

Financial Management

- Is responsible for the development and on-going monitoring of the annual Divisional budget including PRS and E&G/M&O expenses and revenues, and grant management activities. In conjunction with the Division Head and Department Chairmen, develops long-range volume and revenue projections and financial plans, conducts appropriate analyses, and recommends and implements adjustments when necessary.

Clinical Operations

- Ensures the provision of excellent patient care. Works with administrative leaders of other clinical divisions and departments to remove barriers and facilitate cooperation to improve services.

- Ensures that clinical services are carried out in accordance with institutional, state and federal standards and regulatory requirements.

Research Operations Administration

- Ensures that laboratory research operations are conducted as efficiently as possible.

- Interfaces with institutional resources to resolve lab related issues, to facilitate the accomplishment of required changes and to obtain the resources required to accomplish desired objectives.

Human Resources

- Oversees the human resource related activities of the Division including, but not limited to, wage and salary administration, position description development, new staff orientation and training, and employee relations management.

- Serves as a liaison to all institutional departments with regard to faculty, administrative and classified staff related issues including recruitment, compensation, credentialing, tenure, promotions, employee relations, retention, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Master's in Business or Health Care Administration or related field

Required Experiecne: Ten (10) years of experience in related field, at least five (5) years in progressively responsible management positions.

Preferred: Experience in an academic healthcare environment is preferred, as is experience in a clinically oriented role.
