The Operating Room at BID Milton is a close knit team with a shared vision for providing exceptional care and creating a healthy workplace. We have seven operating rooms open for elective procedures Monday to Friday, with night and weekend on-call teams for urgent cases. We provided specialized services to our surgical patients to include orthopedics, robotics, OTO-HNS, plastics, gynecology, genitourinary, general, vascular and neurology. We have a mix of both inpatient and outpatient cases daily with an experienced and professional PACU team.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

**Job Description:**

**POSITION FUNCTION:**

The Nursing Clinical Leader will be responsible for the safe and efficient flow of the operating room schedule, acting as a mentor, collaborator and clinical expert.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

Under the direction of the Director of Surgical services and Manager of the Operating Room, supervises, guides and mentors operating room staff to carry out their responsibilities in the management of our surgical patients while adhering to safety guidelines and efficient processes.

Coordinates the daily activity of nursing personnel by utilizing effective communication, emotional intelligence and leadership skills with all interactions.

Works collaboratively with the anesthesia floor leader, CSR supervisor, PACU clinical leader, OR nurse educator and OR business manager for daily OR efficiency and through put.

Assist with key performance indicators for the operating room to include on time first starts, parallel processing, robotic utilization and turnaround times.

Analyzes staffing requirements, assigns personnel, calls in replacement personnel or authorizes overtime as needed.

Reassigns personnel as appropriate and assists in the evaluation and/or discipline process for assigned personnel.

Resolves conflicts or problems that may develop or refers to the OR leadership team on duty as appropriate.

Functions as resource person for surgical services issues involving nursing practice, standards, policy and procedure, or through put. Follows through with process improvement and quality improvement as indicated.

Communicates effectively with the physician staff regarding issues pertinent to patient care which require discussion and/or resolution.

Responsible for assessing the daily staff numbers, call coverage and communicating concerns as necessary with the surgical services leadership team.

Serves as a flow coordinator with both the PACU clinical leader, CSR leadership, anesthesia floor leader and bed facilitator/supervisor for the hospital bu utilizing the charge designated phone.

Participate in oversight and support of nursing orientation for all new employees in the operating room as well as cross training for all staff.

In conjunction with the Nurse Manager, actively participate in hiring and onboarding of new OR nursing personnel.

Initiates and leads daily board and OR huddles.

Works collaboratively with the OR educator to identify educational needs and in-services.

Meet regularly with OR manager/Director of SS to discuss issues, concerns and ideas for quality improvement and quality assurance.

Participates in the development of goals and objectives for the Nursing Department as appropriate. Reviews nursing practices, standards, policies and procedures and makes

Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure.

Attends and/or participates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.

May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the Director

The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. **QUALIFICATIONS:**

**Minimum Education** : BSN required, BLS, ACLS through the American Heart Association

**Work Experienc** e: Minimum of three years' experience in the operating room. One year of supervisory experience preferred

Experience using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
