The Highlights:   The Mail Van Driver picks up University mail at the Loop and Lincoln Park post offices each morning and delivers the mail to each respective campus for sorting using the department mail van. This position is also responsible for sorting and banding the LPC mail in preparation for delivery at the Lincoln Park Campus and sorting interoffice mail upon return to the Loop office in the afternoon. The Mail Van Driver assists in the processing and posting of outgoing University mail. 

What You'll Do:

  • Pick up mail and packages from the Loop and Lincoln Park Post Offices daily 
  • Assist in sort of parcels, Post Office and Inter-office mail for the Lincoln Park Campus delivery runs 
  • Prepare mail for delivery to the Lincoln Park Campus, including checking sorting accuracy, banding and loading into the university vehicle.  Deliver and pick-up mail and parcels from Lincoln Park Campus locations
  • Assist departments in understanding mail procedures, delivery times and other services offered using excellent customer service skills
  • Operate parcel tracking equipment to ensure that all incoming packages are scanned into the system and outgoing packages are signed for by recipient 
  • Responsible for ensuring regular maintenance and upkeep of department vehicle is maintained, including but not limited to oil changes, tire rotation or replacement, washes, etc.
  • This position will operate in the outdoors for approximately 50% of the day and this could include working in extreme weather conditions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum of one year's related experience 
  • Progress toward an undergraduate degree (may be substituted for one year's related experience) 
  • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and meet the eligibility requirements per the University Vehicle, Driver and Travel Safety Policy. A driving background check will be conducted prior to hire.
  • This position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, can go up and down stairs and walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must have strong interpersonal communication skills, good memory for location identification and good organizational skills.  Employee must have basic computer skills including MS Office suite programs.
