Description

The VA Pacific Islands Health Care System provides access to patient care to over 130,000 veterans across a 2.6M square mile area of the Pacific Ocean. Remote Island locations, separated by great distances of ocean, is the environment in which the VAPIHCS delivers a full range of comprehensive health care services. The VAPIHCS operates seven community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) covering seven county areas. These outpatient clinics are in America Samoa, Guam, Hilo, Kauai, Kona, Leeward, and Maui. VAPIHCS is a Level 2 facility within the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21).

This position is located in the Specialty Care Service at the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System - Daniel Kahikina Akaka Center in Kapolei, Hawaii. 

  • Conduct physical examinations and treatment, including echocardiography, stress testing, event/holter monitoring and other modalities related to the practice of Cardiology
  • Coordination of medical care with primary care providers, other subspecialists, social workers, data managers, pharmacists, dietitians, nursing, and other personnel as a leader of a multidisciplinary team
  • Utilize telemedicine to provide care to veterans
  • Ensures that high quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with Cardiology disorders
  • Perform procedures related to the Cardiology sub subspecialty
  • Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team
  • Potentially expand on a Clinician-Educator role as part of an Academic Affiliation with University of Hawaii
  • Provide resident and/or trainee supervision, as necessary and/or appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with other specialists and Primary Care PACT teams to ensure patients receive continuous quality care and to provide endocrinology training as requested
  • May be required to travel to Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located within VA Pacific Islands Health Care System. Schedule will be based on identified Veteran needs. Locations may include but not limited to Maui, Kauai, Hilo, Kona, Guam, and American Samoa
  • Other duties as assigned by the Section Chief of Cardiology and/or Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care and/or Chief of Staff

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm; Possible Saturday/Weekends rotation as needed
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
