The Interim Associate Head Coach must be able to demonstrate Delta College Athletics five (5) key values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Leadership on a daily basis. To promote student success through academics building a strong foundation for the young men and women of the program. Leading these young men and women to be champions on and off the court. The Interim Associate Head Coach works with student-athletes to improve their personal, leadership and teamwork skills in a competitive intercollegiate setting. They are responsible for, but not limited to, initiating various aspects of their program, such as recruiting, scheduling opponents, scholarship and budget oversight, training and coaching team members. The Interim Associate Head Coach will be a responsible member of the community and a role model for their student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Student-Athletes:
- Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.
- Responsible in determining game-day coaching strategy.
- Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development of all the expectations for Delta College student-athletes; including, but not limited to, the Delta College Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, the Delta College student conduct manual, and other institutional rules, expectations, policies and procedures.
- Monitors and gives constant attention to a student-athlete's grades and conduct. Monitoring the eligibility status and promoting the academic progress of student- athletes. Assists in enforcing study hall attendance for all in-coming freshman, transfer students and others with grade deficiencies. Supports the guidelines set- up by the Teaching/Learning Center in collaboration with the Athletic Office.
- Works with the Head Coach for ASPIRE to Succeed program focusing on academic success as an important priority for all student-athletes.
- Develops and publishes team rules regarding appearances, practice, class attendance, punctuality, dress code and general standards of behavior, with the approval of the Athletic Director. Enforces team rules, providing appropriate disciplinary action as warranted.
- Works with Head Coach to determine discipline, delineates procedure concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary.
General:
- Must remain in compliance with the philosophy, mission and guiding principles of the Delta College.
- Has a thorough knowledge and upholds all of the athletic rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Delta College, NJCAA and MCCAA.
- Exercise common sense and good judgment.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
- Is aware of all conference, staff, institutional and departmental meetings that require attendance.
- Is a role model for their student-athletes, department, division and Delta College. Expected to support and conform to all athletic department decisions as well as policies established, both in fact and in spirit.
Staff:
- Establish a fundamental philosophy, skill development, and techniques used through the pre-season and post-season on and off the field.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Performs other duties assigned by the athletic director or institution. Provides technical expertise in coaching the assigned athletic activity.
- Recruits academically prepared student-athletes to be successful in a college setting. Follows recruitment guidelines to ensure compliance with Delta College, conference and national rules.
- Assumes responsibility for development of off-season activities.
- Maintains high standards and upholds the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
- Establishes necessary fundraising activities to offset budgetary needs to provide program expectations of competitiveness.
Administrative:
- Assists the athletic director in scheduling of competition by appropriate timelines to allow other administrative needs to be met (event management, athletic trainer, officials, travel, lodging, meals, etc.)
- Establish practice and facility needs. Communicates needs through proper channels for scheduling.
- Organizes the proper documentation needed to establish eligibility (insurance, physical, transfer documentation, high school transcripts, NJCAA forms, etc.)
- Organizes equipment needs, orders equipment, and follows proper institutional guidelines to complete the task.
- Completes the season ending forms, NJCAA requirements and general archival needs.
- The Head or Associate Head Coach must by physically present during the entire period of practice that requires the presence of all or one of their team members. At no time may a coach leave the practice area and place responsibilities for a team on a student. The coach is responsible for his/her team in the locker rooms and on the practice field, playing or contest areas as well as when traveling.
- Head and Associate Head must travel with team.
Finance and Equipment:
- Participates in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season.
- Stays within budget and establishes fundraising opportunities, alumni activities and public relations of your program; acting as a promotional agent for the college and team, in collaboration with the Athletic Director to get local, state and national recognition.
- Provide travel advance forms to the athletics office before season to allow for transportation assignments and meal checks to be processed in a timely manner. Assigns and keeps track of athletic equipment issued to student-athletes.
- Submits written proposals for recruiting trips, camps & clinics and other fundraising initiatives.
Public Relations:
- Promotes a favorable image of the institution at all times. Is a role model. Represent the program and Delta College with integrity, respect, sportsmanship and professionalism in the community and at sponsored events/contests.
- Utilizes the institutional tools for promotion; maintains accurate information on the web site, informs Athletic and Marketing Offices of news and information, provides proper news stories to promote sport, and works with the Collegiate.
- Provides student-athletes with information and opportunities at the next level, NCAA or NAIA Universities.
- Provides working relationship with local news agencies.
- Provides working relationship with league, regional and national offices. Establish relationship with local and area high school coaches for recruitment of student-athletes.
- Associates degree
- Knowledge of first aid and safety procedures to be followed
- Knowledge of MCCAA, region XII and NJCAA regulations for the sport coached.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures and forms used as detailed in the Athletic Department handbook.
- College-acceptable driving record must be maintained.
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Complies with Title IX
- Available weekly for 2:30pm-4:30pm practice times
- Relevant coaching experience
- Ability to work effectively with ethic, cultural and diverse student population.
- Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in any field of study.
- Minimum of three years coaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of the MCCAA and NJCAA rules and regulations.
