The City of Edmonton seeks a driven and motivated Transportation Inspector to join our team and make a real difference in how our city develops. In this independent role, you will play a vital part in ensuring all developer-contributed transportation infrastructure meets City standards before acceptance.  Your primary focus will be inspecting, monitoring, and approving a wide range of infrastructure, from roads, sidewalks, and streetlights to curbs and gutters. You'll also be involved in diverse projects, including grading, sewer installation, noise attenuation fences, and even bridge construction, within a designated area of Edmonton. This integral role within the private land development process directly facilitates timely approvals, mitigates risks for both developers and the City, and provides essential construction expertise to expedite projects. You'll contribute to a variety of developments, including new industrial, commercial, and residential subdivisions, as well as rehabilitation and municipal improvements for infill projects.

What will you do?

  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance to engineers, technologists, consultants, developers, and other stakeholders, ensuring projects meet all regulatory requirements
  • Serve as the primary field contact on-site for all construction-related inquiries and issues from internal City departments, external agencies, and the public, facilitating clear and timely communication
  • Verify that all technical work performed and materials used in construction projects are in compliance with current City of Edmonton standards, specifications, and best practices
  • Consistently and effectively enforce the construction-related conditions and obligations outlined in developer agreements with the City, ensuring projects adhere to approved plans and contractual obligations
  • Facilitate the processing of Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC)
  • Review and acceptance of documentation to verify that the project complies with the City's specifications
  • Conduct Defect Assessments as required to identify and document any deficiencies in construction
  • Review Record Drawings to ensure infrastructure constructed in the field is reflected in the drawings in order to have the most accurate and up to date information plans, ensuring accurate records are maintained for future reference and maintenance
  • Provide valuable input and support for process improvements related to construction inspection and approvals, and contribute to the updating and refinement of engineering documents, such as the Transportation Inspector Guidelines and City of Edmonton Design and Construction Standards
