As a Traffic Signals Project Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design, engineering, and oversight of construction for traffic signal projects across Edmonton. You'll use your technical expertise to analyze traffic patterns, optimize signal timing, and implement solutions that improve traffic flow and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. What will you do? 

  • Plan and oversee all aspects of projects, in order to meet the project goals on time and within budget using accepted engineering principles, practices, and design standards 
  • Create scopes of work and operational specifications professional work products associated with individual projects
  • Develop, prepare and/or review and authenticate engineering plans and designs for traffic signals and intersection controls 
  • Prepare functional specifications and create timing sheet for new traffic signal and traffic control equipment layouts 
  • Help identify and prioritize locations requiring construction improvements 
  • Review  traffic engineering studies and design plans for roadway projects relative to the traffic signal systems 
  • Analyze and assist with troubleshooting traffic operational issues by conducting traffic engineering analysis of the transportation system (e.g. traffic signal coordination, detour timing) 
  • Determine methods to improve traffic movement and conduct assessments to improve safety at signalized intersections, including field checks as required 
  • Conduct field surveys and assessments to determine functional requirements for new signals and signal upgrades (e.g. traffic count) which may be required to be scheduled outside of normal business hours
  • Review and prepare comprehensive responses to the inquiries received from the public, stakeholders, members of Council and the other City staff 
  • Project budgeting, cost and documentation management (conceptual budgets, estimate review, change orders and project close out)
  • Assist with procurement and contract management
  • Additional related duties as required
