As an internal consultant, you will support clients in ensuring the delivery of this program in compliance with OHS laws/regulations and within our internal management system framework. This position will lead the organization's Asbestos Management Program and occasionally support the OHS management of other hazardous materials, such as lead, mercury, mould, and radon.
What will you do?
- Advise clients on hazardous materials identification, handling, storage, and management, including exposure prevention requirements and processes in compliance with applicable laws and regulation
- Identify applicable hazardous materials identification, handling, storage and management regulations, standards and best practices; ensure they are reflected in our hazardous materials management processes, governance oversight framework and OHS management system
- Assist client areas with the identification, reporting and recording of hazardous materials incidents and occupational exposures; ensure all hazardous materials incident data is captured in the database Perform proactive and/or post-incident hazardous building material inspections
- Analyze hazardous materials incidents and emergencies and compile the appropriate reporting metrics (key performance indicators and statistics tracking both leading and lagging indicators) Assist client areas and work with other involved stakeholders with the investigation and (root) causal analysis of hazardous materials incidents and emergencies
- Perform and document all routine inspections of City operations, building, facilities and site to identify OHS hazards and risks
- Advise on quantitative and qualitative methodologies, strategies and processes for identifying, characterizing and quantifying hazardous materials
- Maintain a master inventory of hazardous materials samples /analysis Review and monitor contractor hazardous materials: health and safety, sampling and analysis, and incident and emergency response plans for renovation and abatement activities
- Assist with the investigation of OHS incidents involving hazardous materials: spills, leaks, releases and exposures
- Develop, deliver and administer the organization's hazardous materials recognition and awareness training program and/or coordinate this training through other service providers
- Liaise and establish working relationships with Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental peers and colleagues
- Stay abreast of new, relevant developments, practices, information and technologies
