The Monitoring and Analysis Team within the Urban Growth Unit provides expertise to support evidence-based decision-making for planning and implementation of The City Plan.

In this role you will lead the City's Geodemographic Projections Program (GPP) while supporting the City's urban growth monitoring and analysis initiatives. The work you do will be instrumental in shaping the city's future by analyzing and projecting the implementation of the City Plan at a neighborhood level. You will possess a unique blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership abilities to guide a team of professionals. In addition, you will support evidence-based decision-making related to urban form and growth. What will you do?

  • Lead, scope, design, develop and modify land use, population, and housing projections at sub-city geographies that are in alignment with the City Plan and other relevant legislation and policies
  • Track and analyze housing, economic, market conditions, and policy changes to understand their implications for land use, housing, and population distribution
  • Create and refine computer simulation models and methodologies focused on urban growth and geodemographics
  • Process large data sets and conduct quality assessment and quality control activities on other large data sets processed by team resources
  • Lead/undertake advanced analytics using GIS-based software to evaluate development constraints and opportunities as they relate to land suitability, neighbourhood redevelopment potential, open space, growth management, demographic changes, etc.
  • Offer expert advice on advanced land use and demographic modeling to forecast and evaluate the potential impacts of land use policy
  • Train and mentor team members in running models, interpreting results effectively and providing data-driven recommendations on impactful land use decisions
  • Develop infographics and business intelligence tools to present findings to diverse audiences
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of reports and recommendations related to population, land use planning, housing, and employment
  • Manage projects and coordinate activities in a way that ensures efficient resource management, balancing risks associated with exploratory projects, and meeting the goals of the Unit
  • Exhibit leadership competencies in supporting junior staff
  • Support senior staff in advancing the Geodemographic Projections Program and other growth monitoring and analysis initiatives
