Offering an exceptional opportunity, Carilion Clinic (CC) and the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in Roanoke, Virginia are searching for a fellowship trained rhinology and skull base surgery otolaryngologist to join our growing team of nine otolaryngologists, seven advanced care practitioners, four audiologists and one hearing instrument specialist in a clinic-based, academic program with remarkable opportunities in teaching, research, and clinical otolaryngology. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic, academic multi-specialty group practice providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care for adults and children.

Based in the 763-bed Level-1 trauma and academic tertiary referral health center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital/Carilion Children's Hospital, our program provides comprehensive otolaryngology coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area.  Otolaryngology services are also provided in several other Carilion hospitals, including Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Giles Community Hospital, and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.  The section operates clinics in three satellite locations in the region, with plans to open two additional sites in the future. Clinical pathology is exceptionally broad, and our otolaryngologists perform the full breadth of procedures of all levels of complexity. Our section collaborates closely with nine neurosurgery and four allergy/immunology colleagues, as well as our head and neck oncology team.

We are actively involved in the education of medical students, residents from multiple CC-VTC and outside training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students. We currently provide clinical training for senior residents from the otolaryngology residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and our own plastics and general surgery residents with the goal of establishing our own residency program in the near future. The CC-VTC system stands on the brink of unprecedented expansion and opportunity through the burgeoning relationship with Virginia Tech. The position requires an academic appointment at VTCSOM. 

Other requirements include:

  • MD/DO, Board Certification/Eligible in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
  • Fellowship Training in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery
  • Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in teaching and/or research
