Description

The Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTSOM) invite applications and

The Chair will oversee the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and its clinical entities to advance the breadth and depth of clinical, educational and research programs. The Chair, in collaboration with senior stakeholders, will provide strategic leadership of OB/GYN and women's health services with the opportunity to advance an integrated clinical care model and foster innovation with leading-edge treatment to improve outcomes. This leader will oversee the Department's financial viability and be responsible for the growth and advancement of the Department's research, scholarly activity, and teaching excellence. The Chair will continue to raise the bar on medical education, training programs and innovative research across the Department. The successful candidate will be a transparent, collaborative, and accomplished leader with a reputation as an outstanding clinician and educator and a substantial track record of success supporting research and scholarly activity. They will have a passion for clinical excellence and provide an environment conducive to advancing the organization's mission, encourage shared decision-making, and have experience working in a dynamic integrated OB/GYN clinical delivery model. The Chair will be committed to providing team-based care, improving the engagement and retention of the team, and enhancing systems and processes to reach Carilion system goals for OB/GYN.

Carilion is a $2.5 billion, leading not–for–profit health system based in Roanoke, Virginia. Through the integrated "clinic model," Carilion offers a patient-centered comprehensive network of hospitals, primary, and specialty physician practices, and other complementary services – and employs more than 1,200 providers across 81 medical specialties, seven hospitals, and 240+ practice sites. The Carilion care teams provide quality care close to home for nearly one million Virginians. With an enduring commitment to the health of the region, they also seek to advance care through medical education and research through VTCSOM. With its multidisciplinary model and focus on quality, Carilion OB/GYN comprises a full range of clinical divisions, providing care across seven sites throughout the Roanoke Valley, including two hospitals, 3,900 deliveries, and over 102,000 ambulatory practice encounters.

In 2007, Carilion Clinic collaborated with Virginia Tech to create Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the school welcomed its first class in 2010. VTSOM is a unique public-private partnership between a cutting-edge research university and a major healthcare institution, leveraging Virginia Tech's world-class strength in basic sciences, bioinformatics, and engineering with Carilion's highly experienced medical staff and rich history in medical education.

In summary, the Department Chair will be a strong leader in their field who is deeply committed to the tripartite mission of the department. They will relish the entrepreneurial challenge of succeeding in the matrixed clinical environment of large-scale value-based health care delivery. They will exhibit the ability to work collaboratively across various hospital organizational units and clinical service lines, and effectively promote the division and department with community providers, governmental, business, and civic leaders, donors, and other pertinent external stakeholders. The Department Chair must be a consensus builder who also can serve as an agent for growth, engagement, and change.
