TITLE: Radiology Technologist

JOB CODE: 7555

GRADE: S14R

DEPARTMENT: CCH RADIOLOGY

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager / Chief Technologist

SUPERVISE: NA

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager and Chief Technologist, perform radiographic procedures by applying ionizing radiation to patients in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures operating radiographic and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
    1. Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.
    2. Operate mobile x-ray equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.
    3. Transfer images to the PACS system and check image quality and proper identification.
  2. Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure.
  3. Receive and review requests for radiologic studies. Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
  4. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to insure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing radiographic procedures.
  5. Applies principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
  6. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.
    1. Evaluates images in the PACS system for technical quality.
    2. Assist physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the radiologist.
  7. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts Radiation Control Program.
  8. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology Program;
  • Registered by the ARRT (or registry eligible)
  • Licensed by the State of Massachusetts
  • BLS required within 3 months of new position
  • ARRT registered within 1 year of hire
