Position Summary
The Lab Assistant provides customer service by way of technical and facilities support for students and faculty within the lab or classroom environment. This consists of ensuring that the lab facility (or classroom), computing and related equipment, and working areas are in clean, fully usable condition and enable students to work effectively. Technical support extends to troubleshooting general computing or printing issues and providing knowledge support to users of the key applications provided in each lab. In addition to maintaining the lab facility and providing knowledge support, the Lab Assistant enforces posted policies and procedures, such as those relating to use of equipment and maintaining a clean, safe, secure environment in the labs.
The Lab Assistant performs additional responsibilities as required. Lab Assistants report to a Lab Lead.
Pay rate: $16.50 - $18.50/hr. Depending on Experience.
The successful candidate is expected to work up to 15 hours per week, hours flexible with student schedules. . This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
The temporary hourly employment does not exceed 1,050 hours in any 12 consecutive month period from the original date of hire. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month.

About the DepartmentThe Information Technology Services (ITS) division is comprised of six departmental teams: The Office of the Vice President, Digital Media Services, Infrastructure, Integration, Technical Support Services, and Office of IT Business Operation. ITS supports all campus computing - both academic and administrative. The division manages networking and server components, performance and quality of all college websites, the web portal, software and application development, as well as data and administrative system support. ITS provides in-person workshops and training to faculty and staff, and offers an array of video production services including live streaming campus events as well as producing original programming to support college activities. ITS broadcasts 24/7 programming for the College and outlying community on the College Channel television station.
Essential Functions- Ensure proper functioning of computing equipment and adequate supplies in the lab. Report maintenance issues and supply needs to the Lab Lead or Lab Coordinator for follow up.
- Ensure a clean, safe, secure work/study environment by checking the lab at the beginning and end of each shift for cleanliness and maintaining room security (doors secure, access controlled).
- Deliver computing (hardware) and software technical service and support to students and employees.
- Follow defined processes and procedures.
- Identifie and escalates priority issues that the Lab Assistant cannot address on his/her own, either by authority or knowledge.
- Stay current with system information, changes, and updates. This includes subscribing to, contributing to, and following appropriate groups on Yammer, the college on line forum.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
- Excellent communication skills including active listening.
- Demonstrated proficiency in typing and grammar.
- Thorough understanding of relevant software, computer applications and equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Team player and ability to work towards achieving common goals set by the department.
