Position Summary  

This role provides customer service by assisting students, ASC tutors, and campus stakeholders at Bellevue College's Academic Success Center (ASC). Responsibilities include staffing the information desk, answering questions, and performing clerical duties such as processing documents and records, compiling data, responding to inquiries about ASC services, and maintaining record-keeping, filing, and database systems. The Office Assistant also produces necessary forms, letters, and records, and handles data retrieval and entry tasks. Additionally, the Office Assistant contributes to the ASC Safety Delegate team, ensuring ASC-users are compliant with BC safety policies.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $17.43/hour - $23.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work 0-16 hours per week with a reliable average being 12 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits

About the Department  

The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides high-quality tutoring and educational resources for all students enrolled at Bellevue College. The ASC offers drop-in tutoring, individual tutoring appointments, workshops, and resources such as textbooks and calculators for lending. Each year the ASC serves roughly 10,000 students through in-person and online support. The goal of the ASC, its tutors, and its labs is to enable students to succeed in their studies and become independent, life-long learners.

Essential Functions  

Communication:

  • Embody a Student-Centered approach to customer service.
  • Respond to routine inquiries concerning ASC services and procedures.
  • Liaise with ASC staff and other campus stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
  • Utilize actively listening and de-escalation techniques to connect distressed students with appropriate resources.  

 

Problem-Solving:

  • Address and resolve issues or refer them to appropriate personnel or campus resources.
  • Implement solutions to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Other Tasks as Assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications  
  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant work experience in customer service or office environments.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, and other routine office software.
  • Additional Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to perform clerical duties accurately and efficiently. 
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience working with students, particularly in a tutoring or academic support setting.
  • Familiarity with or experience working with neurodiverse individuals and understanding their unique needs.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competency and inclusivity.
  • Previous experience in a post-secondary or community college environment, understanding the dynamics and needs of a higher education setting.
