Summary of Position:
The Volunteer – Camp Sunrise role acts as a camp counselor for children between the ages of 7 and 14 years of age according to their experience and training and in compliance with organization policies.
Qualifications
Education:
• High school graduate or GED preferred
Experience:
• Previous volunteer experience preferred.
• Previous experience working with children preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Strong active listening skills and ability to validate emotions and experiences
• Enthusiastic, energetic, compassionate, adaptable and able to foster a fun supportive environment for kids and teenagers.
Certifications/Licensure:

• Normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate while in the office.
• Occasional travel to various health system locations.
• Travel to the private residence of patients.
Essential Functions
1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
2. Provides guidance and structured activities for children and teens who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
3. Creates a safe and nurturing environment that encourages healing, connection and personal growth.
4. Encourages open communication in a safe nonjudgmental environment.
5. Participates in group discussions, therapeutic activities, and recreational sessions
6. Facilitates arts and crafts activities and storytelling exercises.
7. Assists with organizing outside activities and team building exercises.
8. Ensure all campers feel included, respected, and supported.
9. Maintain a safe and organized environment during camp activities.
10. Ensure adherence to all camp rules and safety protocols.
11. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
