- The Infection Control RN is a key member of the Infection Control Team in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by limiting the spread of transmission and unprotected exposure to pathogens in order to ensure a safe environment for patients, employees, and visitors.
- Job Requirements
- Systematically collect, analyze, and interpret health data to disseminate appropriate health practices
- Conduct educational and training activities for healthcare workers under guidance from the Director of Infection Control
- Maintain and conduct a monthly schedule of surveillance rounds and follow up on corrective activities
- Apply policies and procedures that ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, and other regulatory/accrediting agencies
- Coordinate activities for staff for Infection Control Week, World Hand Hygiene Day, and other promotional events
- Conduct and gather data on hand hygiene audits to generate a monthly hand hygiene audit report
- Liaise with Employee Health regarding staff member health issues or exposures
- Educate new hires on available Hepatitis B and influenza vaccination
- Interact with and report communicable diseases to local and state health departments
- Develop reports and statistical data, calculate infection rates using NHSN denominator data
- Assist with ICRAs for construction/renovation projects; assists director with hospital-wide annual risk assessment, annual infection control plan, development of goals and objectives
- Identify, investigate, report healthcare-associated infections among patients and personnel through ongoing surveillance
- Ensure adherence to patient isolation precautions daily
