Summary

The Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for performing both preventative maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy machinery and trucks used in aluminum smelting operations. This role requires a combination of mechanical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular maintenance and safety inspections on all heavy machinery and trucks.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs to engines, transmissions, braking systems, and hydraulic units.
  • Ensure all machinery and vehicles meet or exceed regulatory and safety standards.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to plan and schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance performed, parts used, and repairs completed.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry standards and technology related to heavy machinery and truck maintenance.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years proven experience as a mobile equipment mechanic and/or journeyperson in a heavy industrial, construction, mining, agriculture, heavy truck environment, or preferably in an aluminum smelter.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Relevant certifications or vocational training in heavy machinery mechanics is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be willing to work all shifts, including rotating.
