About the Role

As a leading player in the Aluminum industry, we are committed to harnessing the power of machine vision to deliver transformative solutions for our operations. We are now looking for a Machine Vision Engineer to join our growing team and play a critical role in leading and implementing Machine Vision projects.

Reporting to our ITAS Director for Operations Insight and EHS as part of the ITAS Operations Portfolio Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our machine vision capabilities, driving the development of strategy, standards and best practices. You will have the opportunity to define the processes and systems that ensure efficient project delivery, fostering continuous improvement and maximising ongoing value capture from machine vision technologies.

Your key activities and contributions will include:

  • Leading cross functional teams of internal and external resources to develop and deploy Machine Vision solutions for Alcoa's global operations.

  • Supporting the identification, evaluation and contract establishment with external vendors/partners within the Machine Vision space.

  • Establishment of life cycle management processes to support deployed Machine Vision solutions to ensure continued value delivery.

  • Ensuring the overall Machine Vision architecture is fit-for-purpose and meets Alcoa's application and security requirements by design.

  • Communicating complex concepts and the value proposition of Machine Vision solutions to non-technical resources, raising the AI maturity of the Alcoa organisation.

  • Being the Alcoa Operations Subject Matter Expert for Machine Vision solutions, keeping abreast of the latest industry developments.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or other related discipline.

  • Relevant industry experience in deploying machine vision / computer vision solutions either on-premises or cloud platforms, particularly with video streaming.

  • Knowledge of camera hardware and configuration to support Machine Vision solutions in an industrial setting.

  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative and adaptable approach to managing cross functional teams and projects within a diverse and global work environment.

  • Familiarity with video streaming protocols (RTSP, webRTC, GigE Vision, etc), video coding (H.264, H.265, etc.) and Video Management Software and Systems.

  • Knowledge of computer vision/image processing techniques and their application in an industrial setting.
