Albany Medical College is seeking a dynamic physician leader for the position of Chair of the Department of Urology. S/he should possess an MD or DO degree, hold board certification and be eligible for licensure in the state of New York. The selected candidate will be eligible for an appointment as Professor of Urology and will hold the Falk Family Endowed Chair. The Chair of the Department of Urology will also be the Service Chief at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
The only academic health sciences center in northeastern New York, Albany Med is a Level 1 Trauma Center that serves as a tertiary referral center for a 25-county area. It has one of the most extensive general and specialty surgical practices in the Northeast including a long-standing transplant program, the busiest Emergency Department and trauma program in NY state as well as the region's only children's hospital.
The Chair is responsible for the clinical, education and research missions of the Department of Urology. Reporting to the Dean of Albany Medical College and the Hospital General Director of Albany Medical Center Hospital, the Chair leads a team of 18-faculty members, 15 residents and 15 APPs. Our faculty are mostly all fellowship trained, in virtually all subspecialties in Urology.
The Chair manages the delivery of urological care in the 766-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital and at off-site outpatient clinics and throughout the health system, including the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital and several prominent community hospitals (Columbia Memorial, Saratoga and Glens Falls Hospitals). Responsibilities include ascertaining that all hospital and clinic operations are conducted in accordance with DNV and New York State Department of Health guidelines, as well as other applicable accreditation, statutory and regulatory requirements.
The Chair of Urology is expected to be the academic leader of the department, and as such, oversees the Department's education efforts through the continuum from pre-medical through medical, graduate and post-graduate programs. The Chair will also foster the Departments research efforts in basic, translational, health services and clinical research. The Chair is expected to advance the surgical education and research efforts within the College and the community.
