Acadian Ambulance is currently seeking candidates for the IT Intern position focusing on Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/Geographic Information System (GIS) located in Lafayette, LA.
The GIS/CAD Intern will assist Acadian Ambulance's Information Systems Department with maintaining and supporting our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies. This Lafayette-based position offers students an opportunity to gain real-world experience in public safety GIS and CAD support. Interns will contribute to maintaining spatial and operational data, responding to IT service requests, and ensuring data accuracy for EMS dispatching systems.
The ideal candidate is a college student or recent graduate who must be willing to commit to a long-term internship (12–18 months) and who can work at least 30 hours every two weeks between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, onsite at the Lafayette, LA office. (Remote Work is Not Available).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to IT work orders related to CAD maintenance, personnel and premise/location updates, and CAD data edits.
- Assist with GIS and CAD-related Service Desk tickets and user support tasks (including Central Square, New World CAD, Bomgar sessions, and phone/email support).
- Collaborate with I.T. staff to support workstation and mobile functionality, updates, and hardware/software maintenance.
- Participate in GPS-based data collection and field verification assignments.
- Ensure the accuracy of address points, road centerlines, and other GIS datasets used for dispatch.
- Document updates to maps and data, including additions and deletions.
Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university pursuing an Associate, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Information Systems, Geography, or a related field OR a recent college graduate pursuing IT/GIS certifications through an accredited program.
- Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS Pro is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and follow technical procedures accurately.
