Within the Financial and Corporate Services Department, you will be part of the Business Financial Analytics team supporting the financial needs of one of our various client areas within the City as they strive to create a safe, healthy, and vibrant city. 
Reporting to the Finance Manager and supporting the Senior Accountant, this position is responsible for delivering activities associated with the preparation of complex financial analytics and contributing to the development of financial recommendations or advice provided to clients in support of their operations.

What will you do?

  • Provide support to Senior Accountant/Finance Manager and operations by gathering data and developing spreadsheet reports for budget proposals
  • Participate in the review of proposed operating service packages developed as part of the Operating Budget process, for reasonableness and completeness
  • Consult with Operations to confirm requirements of budget adjustments, validate need for change and identify if there are alternatives or other funding sources available
  • Initiate approval process, ensuring justification and support for the change is documented through budget adjustment working papers
  • Perform budget consolidation and update information in COBS (usually submitted by the Senior Accountant to Operations to prepare all supporting documentation)
  • Perform financial evaluation on the monthly operating results, providing detailed analysis and working with the client area to complete variance analysis
  • Contribute to the development of new corporate processes/procedures required as a result of system and organizational changes
  • Perform additional duties as required
